Blenders like the Blendtec and Vitamix are supposed to be awesome, but at $300-500 it&#8217;s tough to justify the cost. I have the \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=ninja%20blender&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;sprefix=ninja%2Caps%2C173&amp;tag=bobbett-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Dgarden\" target=\"_blank\">NINJA<\/a> that I picked up at Bed, Bath, &amp; Beyond for less than $150. Just don&#8217;t go cheap &#8211; you want your blender to be powerful and built to last.<\/p>\n<p>Next, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you&#8217;ll need ingredients<\/span> of course. It&#8217;s best to keep a stock of smoothie ingredients on hand so you can always throw together a tasty concoction.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Liquid base: Almond milk, soy milk, coconut water\/milk, etc. This will be the foundation of your drink.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Protein powder: Pump up your shake with protein to help muscle building and recovery after your workouts. I use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onnit.com\/?a_aid=bobbetterman\" target=\"_blank\">Hemp Force, a plant -based protein from Onnit<\/a>. Whey or soy proteins are other good options.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Fruits: Bananas, apples, frozen blueberries, strawberries, pineapple, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Veggies: You can add things like spinach, kale or avocados. They really don&#8217;t have an impact on the taste but give you all sorts of healthy nutrients.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Good fats: Peanut butter, almond butter, coconut oil.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Extras: Chia, flax, almonds, green tea. Toss in one of these for an extra health boost.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Ice: If you don&#8217;t have an ice maker, you&#8217;ll want to have a couple of trays ready to go.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Cups and straws: I&#8217;m assuming you can track down the approiapte sized cup but don&#8217;t forget the straws.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><code><a href=\"http:\/\/www.onnit.com\/hemp-force\/?a_aid=bobbetterman&amp;a_bid=a6604968\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Hemp FORCE Protein\" alt=\"Hemp FORCE Protein\" src=\"https:\/\/www.onnit.com\/affiliate\/accounts\/default1\/banners\/hf_468x60.gif\" width=\"468\" height=\"60\" \/><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0;\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.onnit.com\/affiliate\/scripts\/imp.php?a_aid=bobbetterman&amp;a_bid=a6604968\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/><\/code><\/p>\n<p>Finally, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">you&#8217;ll need some recipes<\/span>. I generally follow some basic recipes and adjust based on the ingredients that I have on hand. Nothing wrong with experimenting along the way.
