STOP THE POP. Depending on where you are from, you may call it pop or soda. I call it evil in a can. There is simply nothing good about soda – empty calories and artificial flavors and coloring. Diet varieties are not any better. Ditch the pop and substitute water. It’s really not that hard.
Juice is another drink to avoid or at least keep to a minimum. You really shouldn’t drink your calories. I love OJ and I used to start each day with a bottle at work. I changed that habit, substituted water for the juice, and haven’t looked back. But what about all of the good stuff like vitamins? Don’t worry, you’ll get those from other foods. It’s better to eat an orange than drink one. I promise.
I LOVE BEER! (and WINE TOO!) We regularly hear about scientific studies claiming that alcoholic drinks, particularly beer and red wine, are good for you. Who am I to argue with science! I’m sure there is some upside to drinking alcohol… in moderation. The studies almost always note that 1 or 2 drinks per day will deliver health benefits. That’s ONE or TWO max. Not a 12 pack of beer or an entire bottle of wine. So have a glass of wine with dinner or a bottle of beer after work but any more than that and the downside outweighs any benefits. You’re just drinking empty calories again. Furthermore, many mass produced beers contain GMO sourced ingredients and artificial flavorings, coloring and preservatives. Look to craft beer for a better chance at natural ingredients but watch out because some of these are quite high in calories. Save your drinking for special occasions – a night out with the guys, holiday parties, etc.
Coffee and Tea – go for it. Green tea is even said to have fat burning capabilities. Just avoid the triple venti latte with whipped cream whenever possible. Sub in black coffee and save the fancy stuff for the occasional treat.
WATER. WATER. WATER. No further explanation needed.
