Here’s another good tool to add to your fitness repertoire. HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training is designed to give you one heck of a workout in a short period of time. Combining a variety of body weight movements in rapid succession with just a little rest in between exercises, HITT will work your entire body and get your heart pumping.
There are many approaches to HIIT, some including the 7 minute workout. Are you going to see results from a 7 minute workout? Not if used exclusively, however, when integrated with your overall fitness plan, HIIT can be a fun, heart-pumping addition to your program.
One of the most important components of HITT, in my opinion, is the necessity of a plan, app or trainer to guide you from one exercise to the next. You want to make sure to hit all muscle groups and transition between exercises quickly vs. waiting around and deciding on your next exercise.
I’m sure there are a number of great apps out there – I tried out the 7 Minute Workout app by Johnson & Johnson – it’s free and is available for both Apple and Android. I did the 7 minute workout followed immediately by a 16 minute workout. The app is pretty slick and it was a surprisingly good workout. My kids even joined me for a few minutes. No equipment required and you can track your progress through the various workout levels so you can challenge yourself on future workouts. Check it out.

And now for some musical therapy… I bet you saw this one coming… bet you didn’t think it would be a cover version recorded in a van.
